NEW YORK, NY – November 8, 2017 – The Medici Group®, specialists in diversity driving innovation, today announced that its CEO and Founder Frans Johansson is a 2017 New York Hall of Science (NYSCI) Gala Award recipient for Creative Entrepreneurship. This award recognizes Johansson for his contributions to the field of innovation, specifically in the area of intersectional innovation, which promotes would-be innovators and creative thinkers to combine concepts and insights from diverse industries, disciplines and cultures to find new, groundbreaking ideas.

NYSCI will present Johansson with the Creative Entrepreneurship award at its Evening of Science and Inspiration Gala on Wednesday, November 8 at Cipriani in New York City.

“The New York Hall of Science Evening of Science and Inspiration is our way of honoring and thanking individuals who are instrumental in engaging and inspiring not only our community, but especially the young people we serve,” said Margaret Honey, president and CEO, NYSCI. “A worthy winner of this year’s Creative Entrepreneurship Award, Frans Johansson’s messages continue to reverberate through all aspects of science and business: let your curious intellect drive innovation.”

Through The Medici Group, Johansson works with companies, government agencies and nonprofit organizations to mobilize the diversity of their people and create the inclusive culture necessary to sustain innovation. Raised in Sweden by his African-American/Cherokee mother and Swedish father, Johansson credits his multicultural upbringing for influencing his ideas around diversity driving innovation. The last decade of his work as an author, speaker, and founder of The Medici Group has been dedicated to helping companies and individuals understand the importance of diversity’s impact on innovation in both business and everyday life. These ideas are explored in his books, The Medici Effect (2004) and The Click Moment (2012), both of which are taught in business courses around the world. Executives from companies such as Disney, Nike, Novartis and ESPN call upon Johansson for his ability to activate and unleash the innovative potential of their organizations.

“The passion to transform how people think and learn with an explicit lens to diversity and collaboration is something Frans and NYSCI share deeply,” said Nick Donofrio, Gala Co-Chair for NYSCI. “We are thrilled to recognize Frans in his endeavors and to have him as a friend of NYSCI.”
